First Time Mum Checklist

Giraffe Plushy in Bassinet

As some of you may know Sam and I are expecting our first baby later this year. Through talking to my sister and parents and friends as well as scouring the internet I have created a checklist of things we need and a few bonus items of things we want. Every family is different, which means this checklist might not suit all of you, but it is a place to start. You also have to think about your budget and where you want to put your money. Some might want a really nice cot, and others perhaps a pram. So below is the checklist I have been using. It always feels nice to be able to cross things off.

Things We Need

To me a list of things we need includes somewhere for the baby to sleep, how it will travel around, what it will wear, what it will eat and what will it poop in. Babies are like that song that goes ‘eat, sleep, rave repeat.’ but replace ‘rave’ with ‘poop’ and I think it is fairly accurate. So for us those things looked like this.

I plan on breast feeding so my ‘what baby will eat’ is something I have on me at all times. As you will see in my want list however there are a few extras of ‘just in case’ items or ‘luxury’ items that both Sam and I want.

Things we want

We are really blessed to have a number of things given to us. Like clothes and the bassinet. We have also been gifted a pram from Sam’s parents which was a lovely gift. My Mum has also already picked up a portacot for when bubs sleeps at hers so there is less to think of. I’m also sure there are things that aren’t on this list that were on yours. But I’m pretty happy to have this as my ‘new mum’ list and I’m really excited to see how we go. Bring it on!
